Limewire Brought Back To Life By Secret Dev Team

As you may know, the RIAA won a legal injunction against Limewire so that they would not be able to run the Limewire network again.

But there is always going to be a Limewire free download in some form or another. Just days after the injunction, Limewire Pirate Edition (LPE) was released by an unknown dev team and allows people to use Limewire just as always. In fact, Limewire Pirate Edition is even better than the original, as a source says “All dependencies on LimeWire LLC’s servers have been removed, all remote settings have been disabled, the Ask toolbar has been unbundled, and all features of LimeWire PRO have been activated for free”. This means that you get Limewire professional edition free without any bundled toolbars. Maybe this injunction was a good thing and the RIAA was only shooting themselves in the foot?

The offical Limewire team claims they are not responsible for this new edition. “We are not behind these efforts. LimeWire does not authorize them”. a Limewire spokesperson said in an e-mail. “LimeWire is complying with the Court’s October 26, 2010 injunction”.

The original court ordered injunction made in late October required Limewire LLC to block their servers from the Gnutella P2P network and disable the file searching and downloading functionality of their software. Consequently, the official Limewire website has since shown a disclaimer over the top of their content saying that the Limewire software download was no longer available on their website.

Limewire Pirate Edition is good news for users of peer to peer software and bad news for the recording industries who wish to eliminate all forms of file sharing, a task that continues to look bleak.

  1. I was able to download and listen to many English songs (Some which I didn’t hear since my childhood days) thanks to “Limewire” and when ever a song flashed my mind I would spend a long time on Limewire dead of night and find that song feed to to my phone and and enjoy. God Bless that pirate of a person who put up the new ‘Limewire version”……
